About TFF
TFF Journey
Toronto Film Forum (TFF) is a Toronto-based cultural organization established in 2014 by Bangladeshi independent filmmakers and film enthusiasts living in Canada. TFF was founded with the mission of promoting independent, alternative, and artistic cinema from around the world, embracing films of all lengths, languages, and genres.
Since its inception, Toronto Film Forum has served as a dynamic platform for filmmakers, artists, and audiences to connect through cinema, fostering multicultural understanding and creative dialogue.
Toronto Multicultural Film Festival ( TMFF)
The 1st Toronto Multicultural Film Festival was initiated in 2017 to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary. Reflecting Canada’s values of multiculturalism and harmonious coexistence, the festival was created to showcase films representing diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives.
Toronto Film Forum has continued to organize the festival annually and has successfully hosted eight editions to date. Today, the Toronto Multicultural Film Festival (TMFF) is recognized as a leading multicultural film festival in North America, attracting thousands of film submissions from independent filmmakers worldwide.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd editions of the festival were held in 2017, 2018, and 2019, with the historic Fox Theatre—Canada’s second-oldest movie theatre, founded in 1914—serving as the main venue, honoring Canada’s rich cinematic heritage.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was not held in 2020.
The 4th Toronto Multicultural Film Festival (2021) took place from September 23 to September 28 in a hybrid format, screening films from 110 countries, significantly expanding the festival’s global reach.
From 2022 onward, the event has been officially titled the Toronto Multicultural Film Festival (TMFF):
-
5th TMFF (2022): Held from July 18 to July 23 across multiple venues, including Cineplex Eglinton, the Multicultural Auditorium (3000 Danforth Avenue), and Fox Theatre, with additional online screenings.
-
6th TMFF (2023): Took place from September 18 to September 21, featuring Full-Length Fiction, Short Fiction, and Documentary films, with no entry fees for submissions.
-
7th TMFF (2024): Successfully held from July 25 to July 29 at the same venues.
-
8th TMFF (2025): Continued from July 25 to July 29, further strengthening the festival’s international presence and community impact.
Multicultural Film Screening Centre
In 2021, TFF established the Multicultural Film Screening Centre at 3000 Danforth Avenue, Toronto. The centre hosts weekly public screenings of world cinema, followed by interactive discussions between filmmakers and audiences, creating an inclusive space for cultural exchange and dialogue.
Community & Cultural Initiatives
Beyond film festivals, Toronto Film Forum actively organizes year-round cultural and community initiatives. These include ADDA, a monthly interview and discussion series featuring prominent community figures, artists, and professionals.
TFF has also recognized and honored distinguished individuals, including Lear Levin and other notable film professionals, in acknowledgment of their contributions to cinema and culture. The organization regularly celebrates important cultural and national observances in both Canada and Bangladesh, reinforcing its commitment to multicultural exchange and community engagement.
Volunteers Are The Heart of TFF
Volunteers are the heart of Toronto Film Forum (TFF). Their dedication, passion, and commitment make it possible for TFF to operate year-round and deliver meaningful programs to the community.
From organizing film screenings and festivals to managing events, engaging audiences, and supporting filmmakers, volunteers play a vital role in every aspect of TFF’s activities. TFF proudly offers a welcoming and enriching environment for young volunteers and community members to gain hands-on experience, develop leadership skills, and contribute to the cultural life of Toronto.
